Bill of Rights Day Program

In December 2010, the Civic Ed Project coordinated the Fifth Annual Bill of Rights Day Program at Framingham High School, in collaboration the Staples, Inc. legal department. Held the week of Bill of Right Day, which celebrates ratification of the Bill of Rights on December 15th, 1791, this program helps students gain a better understanding of the Bill of Rights through an exploration of landmark cases involving free speech rights of students. The program is taught by trained volunteer lawyers and paralegals who run a moot court exercise exploring the First Amendment rights of students.

Accolades

"Thank you so much for your excellent presentation today. It is so rare to have such amazing presenters who are not used to a room full of adolescent kids. Several students after school told me how they enjoyed the "debate-like" atmosphere. It was a very beneficial experience for them."

- Diane Micalizzi, U.S. History Teacher, Framingham High School

“The Bill of Rights Day program has been personally and professionally rewarding to members of the Staples Inc. legal team.  It is also provides a great opportunity for us to give back to the Framingham community. The students are incredibly engaged and interested in learning more about the Constitution, the judicial process, and the legal profession.”

- Mark Weiss, Vice President and Asst. General Counsel, Staples, Inc.
