Our Mission:

CEP prepares young people for active citizenship through innovative civics programs and curricula. We work in partnership with public schools, universities, courthouses, historical societies, and youth groups.  Our students gain a rich understanding of American law and government and acquire critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and oral advocacy skills that promote effective civic participation.

About CEP

The Civic Education Project, Inc. ("CEP") is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes civic and constitutional literacy in the greater Boston area through the development of educational programs and curriculum that give young people the knowledge and skills they need to become active citizens. We achieve this goal through collaboration with partners who share our goals, including local schools and teachers, universities, historical societies, libraries, courthouses, community-based organizations, youth groups, corporations, and other educational non-profits.

Current Programs

  • Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project: This project sends trained, upper level law students from Northeastern University into local high schools to teach the Constitution using Supreme Court cases involving young people.
  • Summer Institute at Northeastern: A week-long professional development program for secondary level teachers who want to incorporate constitutional law cases into their curriculum and/or participate in the Marshall-Brennan program next year.
  • Know-the-Law Programs: CEP works with local schools and other community partners to develop know-the-law programs for teens on a wide variety of issues.
