Our Mission

Civic Ed Project promotes youth civic engagement through educational programs and curricula that provide teens with the knowledge and skills they need to actively participate in the civic life of their community.  We achieve this goal by working collaboratively with high school students, teachers, and administrators, as well as school districts, colleges, law schools, courts, community- based organizations, youth groups, and other educational non-profits.

About Us

Civic Ed Project was founded in 2002 to promote the civic literacy and youth civic engagement through civic and law-related education programs and curricula.  We have been able to achieve this goal through collaboration with a wide variety of partners including high schools, school districts, colleges, law schools, libraries, historical societies, courthouses, community-based groups, corporations, and other non-profit organizations.

Civic Ed Project was incorporated in spring 2003 as a non-profit organization and has 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service.  We are currently governed by a five-member Board of Directors that meets annually and periodically throughout the year.

We also work with great student interns, who help us achieve our goals.  Last year, we hosted an intern from Community Charter School of Cambridge, Wale Wright, through his school's senior internship program.  This year, we are hosting Gaelle Denize through the same program.  This spring, we also began working with Field Experience Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE).

The organization is currently planning an exciting new initiative that will promote the use of restorative justice in schools.  This inititive will offer a intensive summer training program that will teach high school students how to use peacemaking circles to resolve conflicts and solve problems in their school and community.  During the school year, these youth will help promote the use of restorative justice in schools and will also serve as mentors to peers and younger students.

Civic Ed Project recently launched an Annual Fund to support our work with youth in the Greater Boston area.  We hope you will consider making a contribution.
