CEP prepares young people for active citizenship through innovative civics programs and curricula. We work in partnership with public schools, universities, courthouses, historical societies, and youth groups.  Our students gain a rich understanding of American law and government and acquire critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and oral advocacy skills that promote effective civic participation.

Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project

Justice Thurgood MarshallOur primary program, The Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project sends trained, upper level law students from Northeastern University into high schools in the Boston area to teach the U.S. Constitution using Supreme Court cases involving education and the rights of students. The program's goal is to teach students their rights and how to use their knowledge of cases and the Constitution to become effective democratic citizens.    Read more...

The Marshall-Brennan Project at Northeastern utilizes an innovative civics curriculum, We the Students, which highlights the 35 most important Supreme Court cases concerning the rights and responsibilities of students, and helps bring the Bill of Righs to life for young people by focusing on issues that affect their daily lives, from school dress codes and suspensions to affirmative action and the funding of public education.    Read more...
